[ He's gotten a letter telling him he can go home, but that doesn't make it any easier breaking it to his brothers or anyone else he's going to miss.

So instead of facing it, he's packing needlessly and then unpacking it all again. He hasn't even bothered to hide the letter, though. ]

You know of my wife, I would have your assistance in telling her that I am well, but must remain hidden for my safety. There are things she is fond of, and she will know me by the gifts I would send her. Say that an Orsini made an attempt on my life, or whomever you will blame for my demise and- I have children on the way. I would have you make sure that they stay safe, that they are not made to come to Rome... let all of them live out their lives in peace.
